When did Walters barbers begin?
Our famous barber shop, situated in Turl Street in the heart of the city of Oxford, has been established since 1869. This former 18th Century coaching inn, which spans across two floors, boasts its own in-house barber shop alongside its formalwear hire and purchase, suits, ceremonial wear, and many other offerings besides.
Who are we?
We have a team of 4 barbers, Junior, Sarah, Diana and Naz all of whom have a wealth of experience between them. Junior and Diana alone can boast of over 39 years of experience in barbering at Walters, let alone any previous experience they have had elsewhere!
Our main ambition is to offer an excellent service at a competitive price, whilst creating a relaxing and friendly environment for our customers. Our attention to detail is unrivalled and we pride ourselves in our wide customer base, ranging from ages 4 to 90 years old! We strive for the best and guarantee 100% satisfaction.
What do we offer?
At Walters, we offer a wide range of cuts and we willingly fulfill whatever you wish to have done. We acknowledge that, in the wider circles of barbering, the traditional scissor cut appears to be a dying method – but not here at Walters! We could never allow such an historic skill decline, especially when so much of what we are about, here at Walters, is so richly intertwined with history! Some of our customers continue to travel from as far away as London and Leamington Spa especially to have their scissor cut expertly crafted by Junior, who has 21 of his 31 years of experience, here at Walters, or Diana who has been an asset to Walters for 19 years! We can also boast celebrities such as Rowan Atkinson and Ed Harris, who have come to have the all important barber experience with us, and so we think these facts speak louder than any words we might say!
What is the process?
Typically, a wash and cut can take around 20 minutes, or if you prefer to have just a cut, this takes around 15 minutes. Whatever you choose, this little window of time is for you to just put some time aside and focus on some self pampering, and come away feeling refreshed and ready to take on the rest of your day. We have daily newspapers and magazines for you to peruse, or should you wish to kick back and watch some television while you wait, you can do that too!
Do you have to book?
At Walters we like to be as flexible as possible for you, as we know life can be busy. You can drop in whenever suits you – if you are passing by you can be spontaneous! You can also phone in advance, and should you need to fit it in around work, or you are an early riser, we also offer an ‘early bird’ appointment at 8:30 am. We open Monday – Saturday 8:30 – 5pm but are closed on a Sunday.
Do Walters offer discounts?
We offer an OAP, student and junior concession from Monday – Friday, as we know that life can feel full of expenditure!
