Here at Walters we know that we can cater for both! Barber shops are a wonderful place of social interaction and public discourse where we can all put the world to rights!
Our famous barber shop was established in 1869 in the heart of Oxford city, in Turl street.
Interestingly, when barber shops first opened back in the 1800’s, they were actually known as barber-surgeons, meaning that they also dressed wounds, bled patients to ‘cure’ them from illnesses, and performed surgical operations! Thankfully we now have a wonderful healthcare system to do that and a barber is someone whose occupation is mainly to cut, groom, style and shave, mens and boys’ hair or beards.
We aim to keep ‘current’ at all times and we know that new fashion hairstyles are coming and going. Our in house barber Junior, has for 20 years of experience with us at Walters having practised the profession many years prior to joining us. Our other barbers Sarah and Diana have over 20 years of experience between them and our latest Barber to join our skilled and friendly bunch is Naz who joins us with over 30 years’ experience.
Junior is our king of ‘skin fade’ which is very popular with our fashion conscious clientele. He has a very strong cross section of clients, from all walks of life and ages. He comes complete with a fabulous sense of humour and his attention to detail is second to none! Our salon is gender inclusive meaning everyone can obtain a cut in the traditional men’s style so if you wish to enjoy our immersive experience here at Walters then you know exactly where to come!
You might ask what is unique about us here at Walters? Well it’s very important to us; we are almost the only barbers in town who stick to the traditional scissor cut, nearly all others use shavers. You also have the luxury of browsing our wonderful shop before or after your appointment. We love to hear from you and welcome any feedback. A quick question – do you prefer to book an appointment with our barbers, or do you prefer to just walk in and wait? We would love to know your preference!
At Walters we offer a walk-in service, and a discount scheme for OAP’s, Students and Juniors. (Please note that this scheme operates from Monday- Friday only.) Another of our services is to offer a pampering shampoo for elderly gentlemen, so if you are feeling the need of a pick-me-up and to feel refreshed ready for whatever your week is going to throw at you, then we would love you to come and see us!
